This year at SXSW + General Assembly conducted a series of lectures and workshops on a variety of topics. This year, Hunter Whitney, who has spoken at our eUX meetup events, gave a class on Data Visualization from a UX Perspective. Hunter called us up asking for some interesting case studies and examples on this subject, to which we replied “we have hundreds.” After pairing it down to the most interesting ones, we decided to use our work on the Driven product from Concurrent, as a very practical example of how good data visualization can really help simplify the display of a lot of information. Driven provides Hadoop performance management, which can be an extremely complex thing to troubleshoot, so we opted for a visual workflow that gives uses an “at-a-glance” view of what’s really going on under the Hadoop hood. We’re so happy to have our work featured at SXSW + General Assembly and look forward to next year.
